Basse-Taille Enamel - Shadows, textures and color
Basse Taille is a superb enamelling technique through which the piece is highlighted by the spectacular effects created by light and transparent colors. Although on the surface the colored glass appears smooth, clear and transparent, in the depths of the texture, the shade appears darker. The light that passes through the colored glass is reflected in the textured metal and thus creates shades and dimensions.
The word basse taille is of French origin and means "low cut". This term began to be used in the XNUMXth century for enameled pieces with transparent glass, which had a textured base by techniques such as engraving or chiselling.
This technique is frequently used in conjunction with the best known applications such as champlevé, limoges or cloisonné.
In the course we will learn about the types and forms of enamel, methods of preparation and application, correct fusion, finishing and restoration of finishes or defects. In this course you will create an enameled jewel in the basse taille technique on a base of silver (sheet) or silver clay.
Techniques covered in this course include:
- What is email, types of emails
- Types of metals used in enameling
- Creating and preparing the silver base (modeling, texturing, burning, finishing, polishing)

- Burning temperatures and times (softening and flow point, COE)
- Creating color samples
