Sculpture by removal
Removal sculpture is an art form in which hard or plastic materials are processed into two- or three-dimensional art objects. Design can be embodied in free-standing objects, in reliefs on surfaces, or in environments that range from paintings to contexts that envelop the viewer. A huge variety of media can be used, including clay, wax, stone, metal, fabric, glass, wood, plaster, rubber and random 'found' objects.
Due to the versatility of the material metal clay, which in its raw stage is in the form of clay, offers us the possibility to sculpt (carve) as in any other material.
The type of sculpture that will be explained in the course is the one in relief - Bas-relief. This form of sculpture is composed of two obvious dimensions (in the form of a plate), and the third spatial dimension is rendered by modeling the rounded transitions from the outline to the background. Relief sculpture refers to the processing of clay (metal clay) by removing the material, thus obtaining an image that seems to come out of the plane - in relief.
Before participating, please read the safety and security rules carefully!
